EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS at ECOLE SOUTH PARK SCHOOL:
The big shipping container next to the music portable is actually our Emergency Preparedness box.
It contains equipment and supplies that would be useful in the event of an emergency.
There are First Aid materials, food and water, tools and flashlights…things like that.
We have followed the guidelines from the district and feel confident that we are in pretty good shape.
The PAC co-ordinates the maintenance of these supplies and works with the school to help emergency drills run as smoothly as possible.
We occasionally ask for volunteers to help with such projects as the annual "Preparation of the EP Badges" bee. ( We get together after photo day and put together the ID tags for students to wear during drills and emergencies to facilitate their identification and their appropriate release).
Along this line it is important for parents to review and update their Emergency Release authorization through Parent Connect or through the office. It makes sense for kids to be released to go home with a trusted neighbour or friend if parents are unable to get to the school because of something like a damaged bridge or flooded tunnel.
Students cannot be released to people who are not authorized to take them into their care.
